We are a minority and women-owned translation and interpreting business headquartered in Smithfield, NC, and are constantly looking to recruit qualified and dedicated interpreters and translators to add to our team.

We strive for quality, which is why we have minimum requirements for our interpreters and our translators.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR INTERPRETERS

Latino Outreach Consulting of NC, Inc has different sets of requirements for different types of interpreters.

Community interpreters can be called on for the following situations:

· Routine medical and mental health appointments

Routine social services and community services appointments

These interpreters are required to meet the following requirements:

· Have a high school diploma or equivalent

· Be authorized to work in the United States

· Be able to demonstrate oral and written fluency in both English and Spanish

· Be able to provide consecutive, simultaneous and sight translation.

· Be able to demonstrate understanding and application of our Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct, as well as the Role of the Interpreter

Have attended an at least 8 hour course regarding the Code of Ethics, the Role of the Interpreter. If a potential interpreter can meet the above requirements in the bulleted list, but has not received training in the Code of Ethics, it is possible that the interpreter would be able to receive this training through Latino Outreach Consulting of NC, Inc.

Advanced interpreters can be called on for the above situations as well as the following situations:

· Legal appointments

· Depositions

· Trials

· Complex assignments that require advanced simultaneous interpreting skills

· Hearings

· Attorney/Client interviews

Advanced interpreters are required to meet the following requirements:

· Hold a high school diploma or equivalent

· Be authorized to work in the United States

· Be able to demonstrate oral and written fluency in both English and Spanish

· Be able to demonstrate that they have attended at least a 16 hour course of interpreter training by a recognized interpreting body, including understanding and application of the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct and the Role of the Interpreter

· Meet one of the following requirements:

o Certified by the National Consortium of State Courts

o Accredited by the American Translator’s Association

o Contracted with by the Administrative Office of the Courts

o Certified by the Federal Court System

o Contracted with by the Federal Court System for legal interpretation

o Certified by the National Association of Judiciary Translators and Interpreters

o Certified/Accredited or completed specialized and certificated training by a recognized translation body, organization, or institution

Employed or contracted with a recognized organization or institution that requires a formal and standardized interpreter assessment

There may be additional requirements according to the service to be rendered. For example, if an assignment is a highly specialized or technical in nature, a client would obviously request either an interpreter who is experienced in that field, or if not available, an interpreter who is experienced in preparing and executing complex assignments.

Assignments

Interpreters are contracted on a temporary, as-needed basis, for specific assignments, and can choose to accept or decline assignments. All of our interpreters are required to have access to a fax, or a computer which has scanning ability and e-mail, in order to receive, reply, and comply with the reporting procedures requested by our clients.

Contract

All of our interpreters receive a contract that specifies, in plain English, what is expected from them. This avoids confusions and conflicts and provides for a welcoming work environment.

Payment

All of our interpreters are guaranteed to be paid at least monthly, on the 15th of the month following services rendered.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR TRANSLATORS

All translators are required to sign a contract with Latino Outreach Consulting of NC, Inc. that covers rate of pay, payment, procedures, confidentiality and code of ethics. For any translations beyond personal correspondence, the translator also must also meet at least one of the following requirements:

 

· Certified by the National Consortium of State Courts

· Accredited by the American Translator’s Association

· Contracted with by the Administrative Office of the Courts

· Certified by the Federal Court System

· Contracted with by the Federal Court System for legal interpretation

· Certified by the National Association of Judiciary Translators and Interpreters

· Certified/Accredited or completed specialized and certificated training by a recognized translation body, organization, or institution

AND

                          Have at least 5 years experience in translation AND three letters of recommendation

OR                    

Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree
